I know you guys are working on this problem and we appreciate it. There is another thing that bothers me though, your "website pick of the day" hasn't been changed in a week. This leads me to wonder if you guys are on "vacation" or something?
Thanks!
Weebly decided to randomly delete my homepage last night and now today my whole site is down. Wow what great service. This site is embarrassingly bad.
The worst part is I had some notable people checking out the site today and of course it doesn't work. Thanks Weebly for making me look like an absolute idiot.
Oh, and how about having support actually respond to emails. I give this company a few month before all of the negative word of mouth starts to spread or they just decide to throw in the towel.
Come on guys, these people have been giving us an excellent service for quite a while and in most instances, for free.
Some of my sites with weebly have been up for the last couple of years without any major hiccups.
Let´s give them, at least, a break, a word of encouragement and let us hope that they can get over this problem as soon as possible.
As for those that are so ready and willing to go I would say that their bandwith allowance will be put to better use once they are gone.
These problems appear to be outside of the control of Weebly at the moment, but be assured, they will put more stringent systems in place to deal with future 'attacks'. Yes, it might be costing you some money.. but it is also costing Weebly dearly.
I've been with them for a few months, but really like what I see - and the Pro package is a bargain. By all means, go with other hosting companies, but you will regret it in the longer term. And be aware.. hiccups of this kind happen all over the web. Get over it.
True, these things can happen. I do agree with Askeladen and myWhitehaven. And the service is great. But at least there should be a service implemented asap, so visitors will get a message, that there is a temporary problem and they should return later. Now a visitor doesn't know if there is either a problem, or the website even exists.
I have called all my SEO customers and they are giving me a break. Also I am very glad that Weebly lets us copy our websites to a file if we need it. That way if I have to move them, I've got them!
"If you purchased your domain outside of Weebly, update the A-Records on your domain to point to 199.34.228.99 instead of 199.32.228.100. If you purchased your domain with Weebly, write a quick email to support@weebly.com with the name of your domain and we will update the A-Records for you right away."
I wrote to weebly support and asked if changing A-Records was REQUIRED or just suggested. Here's the response:
"All sites will be back up and running within a few hours, but changing the A-Record is an optional way to speed up the process. You can leave a site to the old IP and it'll work well once we're fully up and running."
I've been wondering the same thing about Stacy's Cards advertised as the profile of the day at Weebly. I've written Weebly 3 times asking about it, but never heard back. I googled Stacy's Cards and its an ad for GoDaddy domains. It's not a card company ... It's been listed many times on Weebly. I don't get what's going on. I felt the same way about them being on vacation or something.
My sites are all working again. livehonestly, I wish Weebly would take "the website of the day" seriously and use it appropiately. I reported one of them that had nudity on it and they pulled it. The premiss that they all are a "step above the rest" is bull!
I echo comments about not being so hard on Weebly. Especially those who are not using pro accounts. Weebly has been great for the months I have been with them. The high traffic is surely a good sign that the websites they host are receiving a lot of visitors. I am sure they will learn from their mistakes. You can't write them off on one incident, and if you do, then you are probably not the kind of customer they want.
However, that said, change the site of the day already. I am starting to think that Weebly is sponsored by Stacy's CArds!!
I wanted to post a comment and update everyone as to the reason for the downtime. Since early this morning at around 3:30am PST, we have been hit with a heavy Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack that is causing reliability issues for some sites. This is an attack where tens of thousands of computers around the world that are infected with a virus and controlled by the attacker are simultaneously hitting our servers causing a large amount of load.
If your site is currently not working, please contact support@weebly.com, as we may be able to provide a work-around solution.
We are working hard on returning the service to a 100% functional level and appreciate your understanding and support while we work on mitigating the effects of this attack.
I actually began wondering the same thing about Weebly being sponsored by Stacy's CArds since it's appeared before and stayed for a long time. (I also thought the capital "A" was just a mistake..)
DDoS attacks are no good. I started noticing about 2 days ago about the effect, but we have to give Weebly props though. After all, it is a great service for beginners and and advanced webmasters as myslef
I've had problems like this once before, and to be honest, there isn't much that can be done. It will happen again. Until web users take their security seriously attacks of this nature will happen over and over again.
Why not take the opportunity to tell your users to make sure that their systems are up to date, and secure? Most people just require a small nudge in the right direction - and it doesn't have to cost them a penny.

This is the third time in three days. My site has been down a lot. When will you provide a stable service?

is this a joke?

My site only loads partially or doesn't load at all. This is ridiculous. If this is a 'Denial of Service' attack, why isn't it being reported?

I changed my A-record about 45 minutes ago... still no improvement. Hopefully it will start working soon.
